Merrimack Valley Golf Course, is a Semi-Private, 18 hole golf course located in Methuen, Massachusetts.
When Merrimack Valley Golf Club opened in 1906, it was only the second course the legendary, golf course architect, had designed in New England.
One hundred years later, a sympathetic George F. Sargent, Jr. restoration makes it a joy to play, with unusually wide-open vistas and spectacular views reminiscent of a classic links course. It's a championship course Ross himself would appreciate, challenging but fair, with a variety of features and scaled for the enjoyment of duffers and pros alike.
George F. Sargent, Jr., a legacy Donald Ross designer, has created a par-70 course with an excellent mix of holes. There are greens to test one's short game, holes where a driver is definitely in order, and fairways requiring more precise shots. Consider the par-5 eighth hole, where one's third shot to the elevated crowned green is key, or the par-3 eleventh, surrounded by water.

I love the refurbished layout. I had played this course perhaps 25 years ago when it was a swampland but love the way they moved the earth to created ponds where there was undefinable marsh. It is also unique in that it has 6 par 3's and 5 par 5's, maybe not for everybody, but I like it. The outdoor deck way up high overlooking the course is a nice touch as well. Kudos to the owners for bringing this course back and making it a very enjoyable experience!
